The Weston-Super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea Methodist Circuit seek to appoint a full-time Pioneer Worker and MIssion Enabler. The primary focus of the role is to:

  • Work in partnership with the Weston-Super-Mare & Burnham-on-Sea Methodist Circuit to build community and a worshipping community on the Mead Fields Estate Village, Weston-Super-Mare.
  • Work in partnership with the District New Places for New People committee to establish communities of practice for New Places for New People within the Bristol District of the Methodist Church.

Main responsibilities:

General

  • Be a person of prayer, open to God’s guiding in partnership with others for the flourishing of New Places for New People.
  • Use IT and social media platforms appropriately, working collaboratively with colleagues to communicate about the New Places for New People initiatives and processes.

Mead Fields Estate Village

  • Share in the spiritual life of the people in Mead Fields Estate Village.
  • Offer a Christian ministry of accompaniment and hope, offering opportunities for people on Mead Fields to explore faith or go deeper in their faith journey and spirituality in creative, practical and unexpected ways.
  • Build on connections made with parents, families, and the local community, developing and delivering contextually appropriate gatherings for friendship, community, worship, faith exploration and discipleship, discovering new opportunities for partnership.
  • Where appropriate and with other members of Circuit Mead Fields Team be pro-active in working ecumenically to explore other missional opportunities.

Bristol District

  • Work collaboratively with the District New Places for New People committee to implement the ongoing strategy for New Place for New People across the District.
  • Build a District-wide community of practice for New Places for New People.

Policies and processes

  • Ensure robust policies and procedures are in place for the New Places for New People work including Safeguarding, GDPR, EDI (Justice, Dignity and Solidarity) and any future requirements of the Methodist Church.

Other requirements:

  • Be an active and engaged participant in the Methodist Pioneer Pathway.
  • Maintain an understanding of the guidance around Starting New Christian Communities.
  • Prepare and deliver reports, as asked to do so, to relevant Circuit and District meetings in conjunction with the Circuit Mead Fields Team and District NPNP committee.
  • Participate in Reflective Supervision to support effective mission and ministry.
  • Maintain a good understanding of the culture of the Circuit and District.
  • As requested by your Line Manager, undertake all other reasonable duties that support the evolving mission of the Circuit and District.
