We're looking for someone with the skills, background and experience to establish and lead a culture of research within the Scripture Union England and Wales Movement, focused on the development of a Centre for Missional Research.
The Lead Researcher will work collaboratively with existing teams across various disciplines to generate insights that inform the strategic direction of the movement and shape its future.
This exciting role will be pivotal in:
- Creating a research-informed foundation for decision-making and innovation in missional practice.
- Steering the development of resources that are contextually relevant, theologically robust, and practically effective.
- Providing thought leadership across the sector, positioning the Centre as a hub for missional reflection, experimentation and learning.
- Helping to increase the voice and influence of SU in the children's and youth ministry sector and wider church
- The Lead Researcher will cultivate partnerships, commission and conduct research, and disseminate findings in ways that influence both internal strategy and wider missional conversations. They will ensure that the Centre becomes a recognised voice in shaping the future of church mission, grounded in evidence, experience and theological reflection.
The person appointed will have:
- A PhD level qualification with current active involvement in an HE setting.
- A good understanding of issues in theology and biblical interpretation, particularly in relation to children’s and young people’s faith development.
- A proven track record in research in youth, children and family mission and ministry.
- Have a strong track record of rigorous research (with research primarily in the realm of Children, Young People and Families).
- Be a capable lecturer and presenter.
- Understand what it is to establish research teams.
- Have strong written and visual communication skills.
- Be aware of mission trends, models and issues in the UK.
- Be a confident self-starter.
- Be emotionally intelligent, able to work smoothly with colleagues and the wider SU team.
In common with all members of staff, the Lead Researcher will:
- Be a committed Christian in sympathy with the aims and ethos of Scripture Union, and have an active involvement in the mission of a local church.
- Seek to have a sound biblical understanding that is applied in daily living and is encouraged in the lives of others.
Please note: This is a 0.4 Home Working Contract, but you will need to be at Trinity House Milton Keynes on a Wednesday once a month. Also, flexible working may be necessary when presenting your research.
