Job Title: Archbishop’s Chaplain
Contract: Full Time (34.75 hours per week)
Location: Bangor (The role requires travel throughout Wales and beyond, and occasional overnight stays)
Salary: £45,928 - £51,962
Essential:
Strong and proven organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and to be proactive when time is less pressured.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
A commitment to excellence in the workplace.
A degree, academic equivalent or background in theology and ministry.
Desirable:
An understanding of the Church in Wales, the role of bishops and the structures of the Representative Body.
Ability to speak and write in Welsh fluently.
The Church in Wales is seeking a new Chaplain to the Archbishop of Wales. The Archbishop of Wales is elected from amongst the six serving diocesan bishops. The most recent election was held in December 2021 and the Bishop of Bangor was elected as Archbishop; he continues to serve as Bishop of Bangor and is assisted in that role by an Assistant Bishop, the Bishop of Bardsey.
The essence of this role is to ensure that the Archbishop of Wales is free to exercise his ministry secure in the knowledge that robust systems and protocols are in place to ensure that he will always be well briefed as he engages with his demanding schedule.
This post offers the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills in an exciting time when the Church in Wales is making changes aimed at enabling it to better and more effectively engage in its mission and ministry to today’s Welsh society.
There will be opportunities to be involved in high profile meetings and events, and to work with a range of internal and external colleagues and stakeholders. This is a senior post, which the successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence and, in consultation with key stakeholders, to develop further.
