Embracing Age is a Christian charity working towards a world where older people are valued, connected and full of hope. We have three strands to our work: befriending care home residents, supporting informal caregivers and equipping churches in their ministry amongst older people.
Our office is in Twickenham, but we operate nationally, with a large project on the Isle of Wight and in encouraging churches across the UK to adopt their local care home.
Research shows that older people in care homes are twice as likely to feel severely lonely compared to older people living in the community. There are about 12,500 care homes for older people across the UK, and over 50,000 churches. Even if only 1 in 4 churches adopted their local care home, with trained volunteers coming alongside residents, we could make a huge difference in the lives of some of the oldest people in our communities.
