Each year over 2,500 young people from across the diocese and the UK come to visit the Briars in order to discover community, come to a friendship with Christ and a deeper awareness of themselves. They are led through this by our programme leaders, youth work apprentices and our mission team volunteers.

As part of a year on team you live as part of a Catholic Community on the Briars site. The community live, pray, work, grow and learn together throughout the year, giving all members a chance to deepen their relationships with each other, Christ and learn a lot about yourself.

You will develop leadership skills in small group and large group settings, receive a package of training including youth work theory, faith formation, digital media and first aid. You will also gain lots of transferable skills you can take forward with you where ever you go next!

As part of the team you will experience a gap year like no other. Living in community and serving the young people of Nottingham Diocese whilst working as part of a team.

From our previous volunteers:

“Deciding to apply for The Briars team was the best decision I could have made for myself, I have made lifelong friends. It has brought me so many opportunities that I never thought I’d have. I would recommend applying to anyone who is even considering it.” – Luke

“Doing a gap year at the Briars is a life changing experience where you have the opportunity to meet lots of new people and learn countless new skills.” – James

Find us on social media @NDCYS to find out more about how we work and if you’d like to find out more about spending a year at The Briars as part of our Youth Mission team then get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
