Ichthus is a group of local churches (congregations) in London and Kent, and each congregation is led by a Congregation Leader (local Church Leader) and Prayer & Planning Team (local leadership team). We enjoy fellowship with many churches and individuals across the UK and Europe as Ichthus Links and support overseas workers in Europe and Asia. The spiritual leadership is carried by the Ichthus Ministry Team.
Our vision is to make disciples of Jesus through the whole gospel of words, works and wonders, and contribute to the completion of world evangelisation by planting, growing and linking churches in the UK and overseas. Together we seek to be a people of one heart and soul for Jesus and His Kingdom, as we engage in ongoing mission towards unreached people across the world.
We are seeking to appoint a Trainee Congregation Leader for a 1-year fixed term from January 2026 to lead our Islington congregation. This role is an opportunity for an individual with a love for the church, a clear sense of God’s calling upon their life into Christian leadership, and a heart for inner-city Christian ministry to train into local church leadership.
In this role the Trainee Congregation Leader will primarily seek to grow the congregation through local pastoral work and evangelistic outreach. They will develop their local Prayer Planning and volunteer teams, disciple new and existing congregation members into deeper relationship with Jesus, and release members in their giftings. Part of their time will be spent training with Ichthus on our 6-month Leadership Training Course (RadNet) under the teaching of our Ministry Team leadership and guest lecturers. They will also contribute to the wider life of Ichthus as appropriate.
Alongside a mature Biblical Christian faith, we are seeking an individual who wants to grow in these areas:
- A willingness to be trained and desire to grow into church leadership.
- A willingness to grow in cross-cultural, inner-city pastoral and evangelistic ministry in London.
- A heart for seeing the local church thrive and to develop strong team, releasing others’ gifts
- A committed personal prayer life, carrying their local community, congregation and the wider Fellowship in prayer.
- Faith for the increase of people and financial resources to support the local congregation and wider Fellowship.
- Living out evangelical theology and spirit-filled Christian ministry.
This role is full-time, offered on an initial 1-year fixed term basis. Candidates must be available to start in role from mid-January 2026.
There is an occupational requirement that the job-holder is an evangelical Christian under the Equality Act 2010. Due to the nature of the role with finance and safeguarding, a DBS check at Enhanced level will be required.
