CAP Services Manager

Grace Church Family

Grace Church Family is a church plant based in Banchory, Scotland, with a large focus on compassion. We currently operate a CAP Life Skills service in partnership with Christians Against Poverty, and we expect to launch a CAP Debt Centre in the coming months.

We are looking to recruit a new manager to oversee and run both these services through the Deeside Compassion branch of our charity.

Background

Our church plant is based in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, and although small, we are an incredibly active church. We already have 4 part time staff working for us, largely in our compassion ministries, which support hundreds of people in our local community each month.

The aim of the Deeside Compassion branch of our charity is to see the lives of those who are struggling because of disadvantage improved, not just through meeting their immediate needs but by creating pathways to independence.

We want to bring hope in desperate situations, helping people to overcome the underlying issues contributing to their situation. As such we encourage clients of Deeside Compassion to engage with a range of wrap around services offered by the charity, including our innovative Restart Social Supermarket programme and various mental health and wellbeing groups.

The Role

The role of our CAP Services Manager is to co-ordinate the organising and running of our Debt Centre and Life Skills groups in partnership with CAP and the church.

CAP Debt Centres provide free, expert debt help, advising clients on the best route out of debt, and offering different types of support to help clients become debt free. The CAP Services Manager will support clients on their journey to becoming debt free, through home visits and ongoing support.

CAP Life Skills groups are designed to help members gain confidence and decision making skills to survive life on a low income. The CAP Services Manager will lead sessions and support members as they work through the course materials.

All of this must be done in a way that positively reflects the Christian faith and the core values of the charity.

Among other duties, the role will involve:

  • Undertaking training with CAP to manage the Debt Centre & Life Skills services
  • Visting Debt Centre clients in their homes to explain the service and support the team that delivers debt advice to the client, including fact finding around the clients current financial situation
  • Accompanying Debt Centre clients to court to provide support as they secure affordable repaments and other legal agreements
  • Coordinating and leading CAP Life Skills courses (and other similar groups) for the Charity
  • Liaising with Christian Against Poverty as our partners in respect of the CAP Debt Centre & Life Skills services
  • Managing coaches and volunteers so as to facilitate the running of CAP services by the Charity
  • Reporting to your line manager on a regular basis regarding the operations of the CAP services
  • Publicising CAP services and handling enquiries
  • Promoting CAP services in our church services

The CAP Services Manager will report to the Senior Pastor as their line manager on a regular basis. Participation in staff team meetings, training, and in other settings will also be expected.

Requirements

The successful candidate will need to meet the following requirements:

  • be willing to respect and support the beliefs of the charity and to actively engage with the church family
  • demonstrate genuine empathy for those who are struggling
  • good organisational and logistical skills
  • hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle insured for business purposes (mileage reimbursed at standard rates)
  • general IT skills (enough to be able to use programmes such as office & online content)
  • a successful PVG check

In addition to a successful interview with the church, the successful candidate will also need to have a second interview with CAP prior to the offer of any role. A copy of CAP’s own criteria for suitable candidates is available on request.

Other Expectations

As a church we expect that our employees will support our vision, work towards our priorities, and reflect the culture we are seeking to promote.

Our vision is to be a growing church family, which is passionately committed to pursuing God's presence, and to carrying His Kingdom into our community and beyond.

In order to fulfil our vision we currently have 3 main priorities as a church. Those are worship, compassion, and outreach.

The culture we want to see reflected in our staff and leaders is one where we:

  • honour God and others
  • demonstrate servant leadership
  • follow the lead of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of those in leadership
  • give of our heart, time, energy, and resources to the work of the kingdom

Job Details

The role is offered on a part time basis for 21 hours (equivalent to 3 days) per week. The starting salary will be £12 per hour (£13,104 p.a.) with 8 weeks paid holiday per year.

A 3% pension contribution by the charity will also be available, where the employee contributes 5% of gross salary.

Working patterns will vary depending on course times and other factors.

It is possible that this job could be split between two people on a job share basis, with one undertaking the Debt Centre Manager role on a 2 day per week basis, and the other undertaking the Life Skills Manager Role on a 1 day per week basis.

It could also potentially be combined with an Operations Administrator role which we are currently seeking to fill, to create a full time position.
