As the Church Marketing Lead you’ll have the responsibility for developing the marketing and comms initiatives for a brand new product, Church and Community Transformation (CCT) alongside the opportunity to support the Senior Church Marketing Manager. You’ll be contributing to ensuring excellent reporting, analysing marketing channels and campaigns, and will champion the voice of the church across the organisation. You’ll get the opportunity to work alongside some great teams at CAP, Digital Engagement teams, Fundraising and Supporter Development teams, Strategy and Insight and Technology to improve the experience of our church customers and enhance the reputation of CAP amongst the UK Church.

This role is to work at our Bradford Head Office, with Hybrid opportunities, however remote working may be available for the right candidate. The role is full time however would consider flexible working for the right candidate. 

Job Description

The Church Engagement team works to broaden and deepen CAP’s relationship with the church to help fulfil that visions, such that:

  • We enable the local church to understand how CAP can help them outwork their mission

  • We bring the voice of the church into the heart of CAP 

 

Purpose:

The Church Marketing Lead has the responsibility for developing the marketing and comms initiatives for the new Church and Community Transformation (CCT) product as well as supporting the Senior Church Marketing Manager, in particular focussing on ensuring excellent reporting and analysis of marketing channels and campaigns. The Church Marketing Lead is also required to work alongside teams across the organisation, primarily including the Church and Community Transformation team, Comms and Digital Engagement teams, Fundraising and Supporter Development teams, Strategy and Insight and Technology to improve the experience of our church customers and enhance the reputation of CAP amongst the UK Church. More broadly, together with the Senior Church Marketing Manager and the senior leadership of Mission and Movement Building, they will champion the voice of the church across the organisation. 

 

Responsibilities

Strategy: 

  • Support the Senior Church Marketing Manager in developing the Church Engagement marketing strategy, ensuring that goals are set and achieved in line with the departmental and organisational OKRs.

  • Develop an end-to-end marketing strategy for the CCT product, including a thorough situational analysis (encompassing internal and external auditing), strategic recommendations, tactical delivery, resource requirements and a measurement plan. This will be aligned to the overarching CCT strategy and integrated with the overall church marketing strategy.

 

Culture and Team:

  • Provide effective line management to the Church Marketing Campaign Coordinator, overseeing and coordinating their workloads to achieve the team priorities. 

  • Collaborate with other key departments, (including 

Communications and Digital Engagement, Fundraising and Supporter Development, Network Management Support, External Affairs, Mission Evangelism and Discipleship and Technology) to ensure effective communication and alignment of priorities.

 

Delivery and development:

  • Deliver a plan for CCT product launch in line with agreed objectives.

  • Consult and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to assess organisational capabilities and deliver a strategy that is within organisational capacity and, where appropriate, provide recommendations for resourcing requirements. 

  • Collaborate with relevant development, operational and technology teams to ensure an excellent and consistent experience for the customer throughout the engagement journey. 

  • Oversee the CCT marketing strategy timeline and work with stakeholders to ensure key milestones are met. 

  • In partnership with CAP’s Brand team, shape the key elements of the CCT product in line with CAP’s organisational brand strategy.

  • Deliver marketing outputs and activity in line with the CCT programme timelines set by CAP’s Head of Church & Community Transformation and CCT Programme Lead. 

  • Guide the development of physical and digital materials, assets and resources, acting as the first point of contact for C&DE teams. 

  • Contribute towards the creation and establishment of required sales processes, materials and training. 

  • Creation of marketing content, campaigns and promotional resources to drive engagement and acquisition for CCT and at times other products and services determined by the Senior Church Marketing Manager 

 

Research and Analysis:

  • Analysis of marketing campaigns, implement learnings and make recommendations for future strategy.

  • Support the Senior Church Marketing Manager in maintaining accuracy and recency in all key marketing metrics.  

  • Maintain up to date and in depth knowledge of current marketing principles and practices and input into future strategy.

  • Lead on key market research projects to provide insights on target audiences and market dynamics. 

  • Utilise CAP’s customised instance of Salesforce to deliver accurate reports.

  • With support of the Church Marketing Campaign Coordinator, ensure accurate and thorough recording of church data and champion best practice in ensuring data cleanliness. 

  • Analyse and deliver continuous improvement to customer journeys and experience.

 

Manager accountabilities: 

  • Manager is proactive in creating a culture of personal development in the team, including but not limited to Personal Development Programmes (PDPs), reviews and coaching for every direct report

  • Manager is a secure and honest leader, able to acknowledge mistakes, lead with vulnerability and build a high trust team

  • Manager has excellent written and verbal communication skills and can tailor these to the audience and situation as needed

  • Consistently and professionally articulates the needs of the team to wider stakeholders, whether as part of specific projects or business-as-usual tasks

  • Manager is able to balance team workloads, boundaries and health using appropriate and effective strategic methods such as LEAN, problem definition and ideation tools

 

Measurable outputs:

  • Collaboration in the development of the Church Marketing annual strategy and content plan

  • An end to end marketing strategy for CCT, linked to the Church Engagement  marketing strategy and content plan

  • Physical and digital resources and assets delivered for the CCT product launch and all associated marketing activity 

  • Achieve annual targets for new enquiries through marketing and campaign activity

  • An internal marketing strategy for CCT 

  • Provide monthly updates on marketing KPIs

  • Produce performance reports for marketing campaigns and activities.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Encouraging friends, family and other contacts to support the charity through the Life Changer program, and other fundraising initiatives.

  • Attendance at annual CAP staff conferences.

  • Completing all compulsory CAP training within given timescales.

  • This role falls within the scope of the FCA’s conduct rules, and you will be provided with training as to how these apply to the role.  It is your responsibility to ensure that you follow these conduct rules.

Educational requirements

  • A Level or equivalent in work experience

  • Certificate in Marketing (NVQ 4 level or HND) 

 

Experience:

 

Essential

  • At least 3 years of experience in a marketing or communications role

  • Experience of managing and analysing marketing campaigns

  • Experience of developing a new marketing/comms value proposition 

  • Experience and knowledge of digital marketing principles

  • Experience of having to meet deadlines or targets

  • Experience of collaborating within and across teams to meet targets and deliver projects 

 

Desirable

  • Experience and knowledge of Salesforce 

  • Broad experience, knowledge and passion of the UK Church and denominational structures

  • Experience of project management

 

Christian commitment:

  • The candidate must be able to give both verbal assent to and practical demonstration of Christians Against Poverty’s Statement of Faith and Core Values.

  • Must be able to actively participate in prayer and worship, whether individual, small group or corporately, as an expression of their own personal faith and in line with CAP’s Statement of Faith.
