Advocacy Rep

Open Doors UK&I

We need Christians with a passion for justice to become local representatives of the persecuted church to their MP. Your passion and leverage as a constituent are most important for this role, so whether you are experienced in Advocacy or not we’d love to hear from you.

What you will be doing:

As a minimum, we’ll ask you to send your MP an annual report and meet with them at least once a year to discuss Open Doors’ World Watch List findings and recommendations. But there are many ways to engage them further including:

  • Galvanising your local church to invite their MP to our annual parliamentary event
  • Responding to ad-hoc advocacy requests to write to your MP from our team
  • Organising local events about Christian persecution and inviting your MP.

The skills and characteristics you’ll need:

  • A passion for God and proactivity in praying for the work of Open Doors
  • Friendly and respectful manner
  • Willingness to commit to a non-partisan approach to advocacy
  • We ask that each successful Rep remains in the position for a minimum of one year
  • Reliable and organised in corresponding with people by phone, email or letter.

What we’ll give you

We’ll provide support, training, and resources to help you best communicate the realities of Christian persecution to your MP and what they can do in response.

You’ll receive an initial induction to our advocacy work and core values, and we’ll provide you with a toolkit and webinar whenever a new Open Doors report is published. Personalised advice and support are also available from the Open Doors Advocacy team.
