Job Title: Youth and Schools Worker (full-time)

Cambuslang and Rutherglen Christian Reachout Trust (CRRT) is looking for a full-time worker to work alongside their current senior full-time worker to reach children and young people with the good news of Jesus Christ in the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Area. The work will have two main elements: working directly with young people in schools, churches and the community, teaching and training them; and working with adults,training and enabling them to develop their ministry among young people.  The schools work is largely focused on primary schools.

CRRT works in partnership with Scripture Union Scotland which is an interdenominational movement committed to reaching children and young people with the good news of Jesus Christ and encouraging people of all ages to encounter God regularly through the bible. The vision of CRRT is…

To enable children & young people to achieve their full potential by:

  • meeting them where they are
  • providing opportunities to experience the Christian faith
  • enabling them, where appropriate, to put their faith into action.

As Christians we have a concern for the whole person. During a person’s time of service, we want to encourage them to make time for anongoing and growing relationship with God and also to ensure that adequate time is spent with family and friends in a recreational setting.

We seek to take personal development seriously.   Regular training opportunities will be provided.  These will be formal and informal within SUS, CRRT, and with other agencies. Fellowship and support will be given at the local level through CRRT and nationally, along with training, will bethrough SUS.

Oversight of the work is by the Trustees and Management Committee of CRRT and the worker will be appropriately  line-managed by the senior youth and schools worker. The worker will seek, in consultation with the senior worker, and the management committee, to establish his or her priorities according to the aims that follow:

  1. Supporting and encouraging local churches in their schools ministry by:
    • Delivering projects within the schools; and, as appropriate, developing new projects
    • Re-establishing SU groups in schools (see further: https://www.suscotland.org.uk/what-we-do/schools/su-groups/
    • Recruiting and enabling volunteers
    • Supporting existing SU groups
    • Developing and establishing new SU groups
    • Contributing to Time for Reflection (Religious Observance) and RMPS where  appropriate
    • Being part of wider chaplaincy initiatives
  1. Supporting joint church events by:
    • Contributing to new shared church youth/children’s initiatives, e.g. holiday clubs
    • Supporting and developing initiatives within the community
  1. Supporting residential events by:
    • Attending as a group leader on the events
    • Attending SU residential events, namely Lanarkshire schools weekends and KX1 (summer holiday)

    • Encouraging young people to attend the events

In order to facilitate the working of these aims, the worker will support the senior worker in undertaking the following:

  • ensure that the policy regarding Recruitment and Monitoring of Volunteers is appropriately maintained i n the area
  • keep a record of church visits, school group and group leader visits
  • prepare reports as requested of his/her own work generally

Pay and conditions:

The salary offered will be between £24,000 and £27,500 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is based on a 40 hour week, with 25 days per annum paid leave plus statutory holidays. Some evening and weekend work should be expected.

We allocate funds to a training budget and see continuing personal development through relevant training opportunities as a priority. These wouldbe agreed with your line manager.

You will be required to have a full UK driving licence and generally to have a car at your disposal.  A mileage allowance will be payable at 45p permile, based on the current Inland Revenue guidelines, as well as reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

Job tenure:

The post will be a permanent position, albeit subject to a probationary period.

This is negotiable, and to be agreed with the successful candidate.

PVG membership:

As part of the Scripture Union Scotland Associate Worker Scheme, we work under the SU Scotland Child Protection policy. The Trust’s employees, trustees, and management committee all require to be fully disclosed, and our employees receive training and regular updating in the policy. They are also required to ensure that all the volunteers that they work with obtain the same disclosure and child protection training.

SU Scotland basis of faith:

As part of our association with Scripture Union Scotland and as an employee of the Trust the appointee will require to subscribe to and agreewith Scripture Union Scotland’s Basis of Faith and Ethos Statement, copies of which are included in the application pack.  It is, therefore, an Occupational Requirement that the post-holder is a committed Christian.
